Lambda was founded in 2012 and initially sold deep-learning workstations and servers to researchers, giving it early credibility with the AI community. As demand for cloud GPUs exploded, it expanded into Lambda Cloud, offering everything from single-GPU instances to large reserved clusters.

The company differentiates on developer experience and price transparency, courting AI teams that find hyperscaler GPU access expensive or capacity-constrained.
