How it works
Simple rules, published in full

Collect
Every day we record token prices from AI labs and rental prices for GPUs from marketplaces and clouds. Every source is named.

Combine
Prices are weighted by real usage and summarised with published rules. If coverage is too thin, a series is dropped for the day, never estimated.

Settle
Each day settles at 06:00 UTC the next morning, so the numbers describe a full, finished day.
- 04
Freeze
Settled values are never edited. If a rule changes, it ships as a new methodology version with a changelog.
Questions
What is a price index?
A single number that tracks the price of something over time, the way a consumer price index tracks everyday goods. Tokenando does this for AI: what tokens actually cost by lab (TTPI) and by class of model across labs (TPPI), and the price of renting GPUs (TCPI).
Why are the numbers in dollars, not points?
So they can be read directly. TTPI and TPPI are dollars per million tokens, and TCPI is dollars per GPU-hour. The headline token prices are what buyers actually paid, after caching discounts; list-price series sit beside them for comparison.
Where does the data come from?
Token prices and usage weights come from OpenRouter. GPU rental prices come from Vast.ai, RunPod and Shadeform. Further sources are captured daily for validation, from Vercel’s AI Gateway to AWS and Azure regional price lists. The methodology lists every source and rule.
How often are the indices updated?
Once a day. Each day settles at 06:00 UTC the following morning, and a settled value is never edited afterwards.
Is this financial advice?
No. The indices are informational reference data, not financial products, price quotes or investment advice. GPU prices are offered prices, labelled as such.
