CoreWeave

CoreWeave is a specialized GPU cloud — a "neocloud" — that provides large-scale NVIDIA accelerator capacity to AI labs and enterprises. It grew explosively from a cryptocurrency-mining origin into one of the most important suppliers of training and inference compute, backed by NVIDIA and serving customers including OpenAI and Microsoft. Its 2025 IPO made it the highest-profile pure-play AI-infrastructure company on public markets.

Founded in 2017 as Atlantic Crypto, CoreWeave pivoted from Ethereum mining to GPU cloud services and rode the AI boom to enormous scale. Unlike general-purpose hyperscalers, it focuses exclusively on GPU-accelerated workloads, offering rapid access to the latest NVIDIA systems.

NVIDIA is both an investor and a preferred-supply partner, and CoreWeave has often been among the first to deploy new GPU generations at scale. Its customer base includes OpenAI (via multi-billion-dollar contracts), Microsoft, and other labs that need capacity faster than they can build it themselves.

CoreWeave went public in 2025 in one of the year's most closely watched listings, and its debt-financed, contract-backed model — borrowing against GPU assets and long-term customer commitments — became emblematic of the capital intensity and concentration risk of the neocloud sector. It competes with Lambda, Nebius, Crusoe, and the hyperscalers.
