Amazon is the world's largest cloud provider through AWS, and a major AI player on multiple fronts: it is Anthropic's largest investor and compute partner, offers third-party and first-party models through Amazon Bedrock, and designs its own Trainium and Inferentia accelerators. Its scale in infrastructure makes it central to how enterprises deploy AI.

Founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 as an online bookstore, Amazon created the modern cloud industry when it launched AWS in 2006. AWS remains the revenue and profit engine of the company and the default infrastructure for a large share of the internet, giving Amazon enormous reach into enterprise AI deployment.

Amazon Bedrock is its managed platform for building with foundation models — Anthropic's Claude, Meta's Llama, Mistral, and Amazon's own Nova models among them. To control cost and supply, Amazon designs custom silicon: Trainium for training and Inferentia for inference, with dedicated Trainium capacity built for Anthropic under Project Rainier.

Its $8 billion investment in Anthropic mirrors Microsoft's OpenAI strategy — securing a frontier-model partner while remaining model-neutral on Bedrock. Amazon's custom-chip push, backed by Annapurna Labs engineering, is one of the most credible hyperscaler efforts to reduce NVIDIA dependence at scale.
