Sundar Pichai
CEO, Google & Alphabet
Sundar Pichai is the CEO of Google and Alphabet, steering the company’s AI-first strategy, the Gemini model family, and its custom TPU silicon. Google’s vertically integrated stack — chips, cloud, models, and distribution — makes his decisions pivotal to AI pricing worldwide.
Notable for
Pichai grew up in Chennai, studied at IIT Kharagpur, Stanford, and Wharton, and joined Google in 2004. He drove Chrome from contrarian bet to the world’s dominant browser, oversaw Android, and became CEO of Google in 2015 and of Alphabet in 2019.
He declared Google an AI-first company in 2016, backing the TPU custom-chip program and the research culture that produced the transformer architecture. After ChatGPT’s launch put pressure on Google’s search franchise, Pichai consolidated Google Brain and DeepMind into a single lab under Demis Hassabis and shipped successive generations of the Gemini model family.
Google’s vertical integration — TPUs, its own data centers, frontier models, and billions of users across Search, Android, and Workspace — lets Pichai price Gemini aggressively, repeatedly undercutting rivals on cost per token. That structural cost advantage makes Alphabet a central force in AI pricing dynamics.
