Lisa Su
CEO, AMD
Lisa Su is the chair and CEO of AMD, which she rebuilt from near-collapse into the primary challenger to NVIDIA in AI accelerators. Her Instinct GPU line and open ROCm software stack are the most important competitive check on AI compute pricing.
Notable for
Su earned her bachelor’s through doctoral degrees in electrical engineering at MIT, then spent over a decade at IBM working on semiconductor technology, including silicon-on-insulator processes. After leading Freescale’s networking business she joined AMD in 2012 and became CEO in October 2014, when the company was widely seen as close to failure.
She bet the company on the Zen CPU architecture, and the resulting Ryzen and EPYC lines took substantial share from Intel while semi-custom console chips funded the turnaround. The roughly $50 billion Xilinx acquisition, completed in 2022, added adaptive computing and expanded AMD’s data-center reach.
In AI, Su positioned the Instinct MI300 family and the open ROCm software stack as the credible alternative to NVIDIA, winning deployments at major cloud providers. A multi-year, multi-gigawatt GPU supply agreement with OpenAI announced in 2025 cemented AMD’s role as the second source for frontier compute.
