Aidan Gomez

As an intern at Google Brain, Gomez was a co-author of the 2017 paper "Attention Is All You Need," which introduced the transformer architecture behind virtually every modern large language model. He went on to research at the University of Toronto and Oxford.

In 2019 he co-founded Cohere with Nick Frosst and Ivan Zhang to bring large language models to enterprises, deliberately positioning the company as cloud-agnostic and enterprise-first. Its Command, Embed, and Rerank models became known for retrieval and secure deployment rather than viral consumer demos.

Gomez has steered Cohere toward governments and regulated industries that need private, on-premises, or sovereign AI, backed by partners including Oracle. His status as a transformer co-inventor gives his views on model architecture and enterprise AI unusual authority.
